What is usability?
Different
people define usability in different ways. To us, usability means
making things as easy and as much fun to use as possible. For a web
site, that means making sure your content, structure and terminology
are in tune with your visitors’ expectations. Deep down, usability
is all about common sense. And while common sense isn’t very common
anymore, we’ve got plenty of it at AGConsult.
The goal of usability
If you doubt the usability
of your web site, ask yourself the following questions:
-
Does the information
on your site respond to real user needs?
-
Is your site easily
accessible? Also for Mac-users and browsers that aren't Internet
Explorer?
-
Is your site’s structure
based on how your clients perceive your company?
-
Do the texts make sense?
-
Is it easy for
potential and existing customers to find what they’re looking
for?
If the answer to one or more of these questions isn’t yes, it’s
time to make some changes.
Usability
helps making your visitors happy
Improved usability has
many positive repercussions. If your web site answers your clients’
needs and expectations, they will like using it a lot more. And
consequently use it more often.
Some results of improved usability:
- A more positive corporate image
- More loyal customers
- A more intense use of your web site or application
- A higher return on investment (higher turnover, less expenses)
- A higher conversion rate (more buyers, less browsers)
