Why user research?
User research is the first thing to consider if you're thinking
about a new website. A website can only be successful if it fulfils the
user's needs. 3 main questions
During user research we're looking for an answer to these 3 questions.
-
What are your visitors' top tasks?
- People visit your site for a reason. They want
to do something. They want to find an answer to their question.
- What
are the most important reasons people visit your site?
- Which words do your visitors use?
- Which words do people use in Google to find
what you're offering?
- What are the most used synonyms or spelling
errors?
- What do your visitors like and dislike
about your website?
- What you think doesn't matter. What we
think doesn't matter either. What do your visitors like and
dislike?
- What do they like and dislike about your
competitors' websites?
How do we go about user
research?
There are different ways to
find out what people want from your website. Together with you and your
team, we decide which approach will work best for your website.
- Client interviews
To find out what people expect from your website, we call your (potential)
clients on the phone or pay them a visit to have a chat with
them.
- Online
questionnaire
A relatively cheap way to get feedback from a large amount of
people fast. Our strength: short questionnaires with clear
questions and real answers instead of prompted responses.
- Client observation
We drop by your shop or office to observe and talk to your (potential)
clients. That way we can find out more about their decision
making process, which questions they have and which words they
use.
- Log file analysis
A thorough analysis of your visitors' behavior can be a real
eye-opener. Of course we go beyond the obvious stats like
visitor numbers, page views, etc.
- Internal search
analysis
If your website has a search feature, we analyze the
words people type in. That tells us what your visitors are looking for and which words
they use.
- Customer contact
analysis
Your call center knows what your customers' most frequently asked
questions are. No call center? No problem. In every company,
there are people who talk to customers. We want to talk to them.
- Keyword analysis
Which words do people use on Google to look for the things
you're offering? What are the most used synonyms or spelling
errors?
- User test
There's nothing better than watching potential and existing customers use your
website. What do they like or dislike? What's easy to find and
what isn't? We take care of everything, from recruiting the
users to conducting the test. All you have to do is watch. We
guarantee you'll find out things that will help you increase
your website's return on investment.
- Benchmark
test or competitive analysis
A benchmark test
compares your website to your competitors'. We look at what's the
same, what's different and the best practices. A benchmark test can
be done by our experts or in the form of a benchmark user test.
Results of user
research
- Overview of your target audience's top
tasks.
- A clear idea of the words your clients
and prospects use to find what they're looking for on your
website.
- The good and bad points of your own
website (and your competitors').
- A written report for every step.
What happens after the user research?
User research or user needs analysis is often the
first step towards drawing up a transparent
information architecture. An
information architecture defines your website or intranet's structure and
navigation.
